Despite the stormy history that Thomasville has had over the years, it would be unheard of that most people don’t know their brand name. Even more so, big box stores like Home Depot had further given Thomasville new life after many big chain department stores including J.C. Penny’s and others slowly receded from the spotlight. Though, when it comes to quality cabinets that are part of everyday life, Thomasville is synonymous with many famous American-made products.

Let’s take a look at the Thomasville Cabinetry line of products to introduce you to what they have to offer these days and why they are still an excellent choice for your home and one of our favorite cabinet manufactures.

About Thomasville Cabinetry

Many people have heard of Thomasville furniture and perhaps know that they also specialize in kitchen and bathroom cabinetry. What is more fascinating is that Thomasville emerged way back in 1904 as the Thomasville Chair Company and had only one product which was only chairs. Their manufacturing facilities could produce upwards of 500-1000 chairs per day by the time their mass production line increased by 1905.

Through a strange twist of fate, two other turn-of-the-century companies that produced bedroom and dining room furniture were later bought by Thomasville in 1961, which then officially became Thomasville Furniture Industries. As most company acquisitions often occur, Thomasville was then merged into an umbrella corporation that was part of the Armstrong World Industries catalog of products in 1968.

This later merged again when Armstrong World Industries was bought by Interco which changed its name to Furniture Brands International in 1995. This allowed the Thomasville brand name to still exist under the Heritage Home Group catalog until 2014 when plans to shut down Thomasville’s manufacturing facility were announced. This was finally averted when Heritage Homes Group decided to combine three of their companies into a single name.

This is when Thomasville & Co. became a combination of Drexel, Henreden, and Thomasville furniture products. As Thomasville & Co. was quickly going into bankruptcy, it was finally sold to Authentic Brands Group in 2018 and since then has helped to turn around the Thomasville furniture brand for the better. Since then, you can readily find Thomasville cabinets readily sold through home designer stores and cabinetry showrooms all across the US.

Home Depot Partnership

The Home Depot

Since opening in Marietta, Georgia in 1978, it didn’t take too long for this revolutionary hardware/DIY concept to become popular. Like most home improvement stores, Home Depot had a keen eye to include top-name manufacturers that catered to do-it-yourself homeowners and others who liked that you could find everything ‘home improvement’ under a single roof. Many of their locations even featured free classes on several DIY project topics.

It was less than 20 years that Home Depot had expanded all over the US but had also partnered with Heritage Home Group to offer the Thomasville product line of pre-made and semi-custom cabinetry. This partnership that began in 1999 created an exclusive agreement that would sell the Thomasville cabinet lines actually took an entire year before customers got to see what was being offered.

No more than 1,100 stores across the US and Canada in October of 2000 could now have a choice of 4 cabinet styles. This included the “Lifestyle Collection” that started with Meadow: a traditional country kitchen look, City Space: a modernistic contemporary look, Estate: which was very traditional looking, and Courtyard European, which was highly influenced by Euro designs. The cost back in those days was $2000 to $4000 depending on the style that was offered.

What is more interesting is that these were dubbed semi-custom at the time but included real wood variants including natural oak, hickory, maple, and cherry with a choice of white colors and laminates. At the time it was a great cross-over that gained lots of business for Home Depot and Thomasville cabinets likewise. Among the benefits that came with ordering at Home Depot was an interesting option.

Customers could choose to have a Home Depot crew install the cabinets at their home or could choose to have privately hired contractors. Each Home Depot branch was further required to have fully prepared cabinet displays with all the related promotional info, accessories, and a list of all Thomasville products so a customer got more exposure to every product they sold whether it was cabinets or furniture.

Until recently, Home Depot now offers virtual design rendering for Thomasville cabinets, to make the process of designing a kitchen easier. And though the semi-custom cabinets you’ll find at Home Depot are essentially pretty standard as popular selection choices, Thomasville does have an extensive array of cabinets, doors, and customizations that make budget-minded customers very content.

Thomasville’s Kitchen Cabinets

Aside from the brand name, customers are always interested in what Thomasville Cabinetry has to offer these days. They might have started out in the furniture business and have come full circle to include kitchens and bathrooms with classic styles that reflect what your home is all about. And though they stick with colors and themes that are (at times) as simplistic as possible, they manage to capture a timeless look even if they include modern or transitional touches.

The array of additional features that are certainly refreshing is the kind that you don’t see right away. These include conveniences such as roll-out drawers and cabinet organizers. This has always been a great feature to help homeowners navigate through their kitchen faster and more efficiently so that the duties within a kitchen create a better workflow. Thomasville certainly has plenty of organizing additions that are meant to improve daily life and cooking tasks.

As this wasn’t enough, cabinets can become more iconic and customizable with the addition of their line of crown moldings, corbels, legs and feet, and special accent decorations. Even special attention to cabinet doors also includes mullion insert doors, textured glass panels, aluminum framed door frames, and even art-inspired decorative glazes and patterns for panel doors.

Indeed, the sheer variety of what Thomasville can offer is amazing to achieve a completely original-looking cabinet that is actually a clever selection of semi-custom add-ons. And for those who are always looking for quality cabinetry, Thomasville still delivers the goods.

Customer Support And Resources

Customers Support at Thomasville Cabinetry

There was a time when many folks were hesitant to purchase Thomasville cabinets from Home Depot more than 20 years ago. Then again, this was during one of the biggest recessions that hit the US in 2008. If you take a look at how convenient the ordering process is these days, it seems that Thomasville is certainly not going away anytime soon. In fact, they make it a point to make customer support and online services even more convenient than it has been in years.

Not only do they offer ‘in-house’ consultation where a real representative comes to your residence, but they can also help you choose which cabinets you need with little stress involved. The online Thomasville site also features several online calculation and design tools for those who are looking to do a project without assistance. From start to finish, their online tips, videos, and tools can create a stunning cabinet design in just a few steps.

But the resources don’t stop there since their partnership with Home Depot has taken the design process one step further. They offer services such as “White Glove” installation options that are a larger part of the Pro Referral program. This guarantees that whenever cabinets are installed by Home Depot installers, they are installed correctly and with as much accuracy as possible.

It’s a nice feature that allows customers to not have to worry about privately-hired contractor services and isn’t that much in addition to the cost of the cabinets either. Yet, one feature that is always nice is how customers who aren’t familiar with cabinet design can find ideas through their website in the “Inspiration Gallery”. Another nice touch is learning about what type of kitchen you currently have or are trying to achieve.

It’s the little touches that Thomasville has added over the years which make its line of cabinets easier to navigate. And considering that they only offered just four different cabinet styles, you can now find Casual, Contemporary, Rustic, and Traditional cabinetry that will have dozens (if not hundreds) of customizable options that can be added on.
